'TILL THE
BOYS COME HOME EXHIBITION
Do
you have stories from World War Two that you'd like to share
with the general public?
In June 2004, designed to coincide
with the workshop performance of 'Till The Boys Come Home,
Incognita put out a request to the general public, via articles
in local papers, The Age and interviews on ABC Radio 774 and
ABC News Radio, asking for photos and written accounts from those
who had worked and lived on Melbournes Home Front during
WWII.
The end result was the exhibition
The Way We Were, which carried displays from twenty
different men and women who had experienced the Melbourne Home
Front during the 1940s. This exhibition was incorporated
into the workshop performance as a foyer display for the audience
to peruse prior to the play and during the plays interval,
accompanied by specially recorded music and news broadcasts from
the period.
We intend
to build on this original exhibition, and once again incorporate
it into the 2008 season of the show.
From our experience in 2004
during the workshop performance, we know that this exhibition
is truly appreciated by the audience, as it sets the scene and
atmosphere for them through the stories, images and audio used
in the display - ultimately working as a prelude to the actual
performance. For those who contributed, it gave them a sense
of being appreciated and acknowledged by the general public.
So, were
you on the Home Front during WWII?
Were you a child during the
war? Do you have photos of family members serving either on the
Home Front or War Front? Are you a Serviceman or Servicewoman?
Do you have photos taken of Melbourne during World War Two that
you'd like to share? Were you a housewife "making do"
during the war? We consider all stories and images from this
time valuable (even if you think you didn't do much!) and want
to hear from as many people as possible.
So, if you have any personal
stories or images from this time in Australia's history - we
would love to hear from you!
You can either email us at stories @ tilltheboyscomehome.com
or mail the information to us at P.O. Box 526, Mt Martha VIC
3934 Australia. Please only send us copies of your photos
and stories - the originals are precious and we wouldn't want
to lose them!
All contributions will be acknowledged
in the exhibition with the name of the contributor as well as
a short biography of each contributor, if provided.
Essentially, we see this production
as a chance to educate as well as entertain and the exhibition
element is therefore vitally important to our achieving this
objective.
If you have any enquiries about
the exhibition, feel free to call us on 0434 942 160.
We look forward to hearing your
stories and sharing them with our audiences! |
